Day 20 - Bitter Springs

Started the day with a much more respectable overnight temp of 17c.

Today we thought we'd give it a nudge and see if we could make Materanka.
First fuel up was at Renner Springs.
The Stuart Highway north of Threeways is littered with WWII encampments, airstrips, other posts and memorials.

A quick stop at Dunmarra and our first site of water buffalo, then on to Elliott where we stopped at the memorial. We also phoned ahead to Darwin to organise a set of road tyres for Rog, a rear for me and oil all round.
Next stop was Daly Waters which was like Burke Street with vans and people everywhere. Checked out the Stuart tree and the WWII Airstrip. Onward to Larrimah, the Pink Panther hotel. Larrimah has recently again become centre of attention over the fella (Paddy Moriarty) who went missing (over pies and affairs). Some have suggested he ended up in the old pork pies that have been sold out of his estranged mistresses establishment (I support this theory). Population 10 minus 1.

We arrived at Materanka around 3:30 and set up tents at Bitter Springs for the night. On with the togs (bathing apparel) a borrowed noodle and off to float down the springs. Absolutely bloody fantastic! Nature at its best. Not to mention Rog and me.
